In Fall 2015, The Beagle School piloted a new afternoon program for 4- and 5-year-olds:
Beyond Beagle: A Cultural Arts Enrichment Program. In Beyond Beagle, we are excited to incorporate themes and activities that highlight community-based learning and emphasize creativity, our natural world through the seasons, foreign language and diversity. This program adds an innovative dimension to the highly respected Creative Curriculum utilized through all classes at The Beagle School.
Ms. Mary, who will serve as lead teacher, has designed activities and projects that speak to the educational foundation of The Beagle School. In so doing, she will encourage these four- and five-year-olds to go that one step “beyond” by connecting established curricular goals with the themes of community, creativity, the seasons, and diversity that define Beyond Beagle. Ms. Cheri, who will be assistant teacher, brings with her not only ample experience with and training in educating preschoolers, but plenty of enthusiasm! Madame Brie, our language teacher, meets with the class weekly to teach the students French.
In keeping with The Beagle School’s emphasis on preparing children for entrance into elementary school, the curriculum for Beyond Beagle focuses on teaching kindergarten readiness skills. As with the other programs offered by The Beagle School, Beyond Beagle follows the Creative Curriculum, along with the Letter People program and theme-based approaches to learning. Our teachers regularly review kindergarten expectations so as to prepare students for entrance screenings. Beyond Beagle graduates will have experience with in-school routines, such as circle time, and our teachers guide them in learning phonological awareness and early math skills, not to mention beginning writing.
